The Gung Ho challenge

On Saturday 14th September 2019, Special Olympics Gateshead Tyne and Wear participated in the Gung-Ho Challenge at Herrington Country Park in Houghton-le-Spring to raise funds for the charity. Not for the feint-hearted, the Gung Ho requires participants to run 5km whilst dipping under or scaling over a wide range of inflatable obstacles. The weather was ideal with the course been nice and dry, making it much easier to clear the obstacles. In total, we had 11 people completing the course, with coaches and volunteers running alongside our Special Olympics athlete, Steven Clarkson. Steven raised a substantial amount of fundraising for the club in completing the challenge – well done Steven! Whilst much fun, the Gung Ho is a challenging event, though well worth it, when we know how crucial the fundraising is to give our athletes the very best sporting opportunities. In total, nearly £1,000 was raised for Special Olympics Gateshead Tyne and Wear from the event.
