9 of our Boccia Players compete in Special Olympics Yorkshire and Humberside

On Saturday 10th March 2019; 9 of our Boccia players made a very early start to compete in the Special Olympics Yorkshire and Humberside competition in Sheffield. Our players were split into 3 teams with Shaun Clark, Paul Gallagher and Aaron Younger in Gateshead A, Susan Dalton, David Farrell and Michael Welsh in Gateshead B and John Farrimond, Andrew Knox and Matthew Lone in Gateshead C.

Going up against 5 other teams in the form of Hambleton, Leeds, Sheffield, Skelton Cleveland and Thorne, this proved to be a very enjoyable, whilst, competitive fixture. Our ‘A’ team of Shaun, Paul and Aaron won 2 games on the day, finishing with a positive points difference and won bronze medals. Our ‘B’ team of Susan, David and Michael, found the going a bit tougher and lost each game, though, it can be said, continued to try their best throughout. Our ‘C’ team of John, Andrew and Matthew, had the greatest success, winning three games which secured them with silver medals. This was a long, but, more than satisfying day for our Boccia players, who proved their worth throughout.
